The Movie Book
One of the best gifts a movie lover can give another, is the title of a wonderful film they have not yet discovered. Here are more than 300 movies I have watched over the course of my life with a personal rating below it. Below, is my own movie rating system. The gallery is in order from 'Best' to 'Worst'.
My movie rating system is a breakdown of the personal, aesthetic, and spiritual dimensions of the film. Personal focuses on what the film was about, and whether or not I found it enjoyable. Aesthetic focuses on how the film was made, its level of craftsmanship, cinematography and artistic merit. Spiritual focuses on the goodness, and beauty of the film; its moral and spiritual themes and ideas; and its ability to inspire viewers towards the transcendence.
Disclaimer: Please note that our rating system for comedies differs from other genres. Comedies are capped at a maximum rating of 7.9. Any comedy with a rating above 7.9 is marked as a favorite. This distinction is made because we believe comedies should not be compared directly to genres such as drama, thriller, etc., which have different artistic and emotional criteria. This unique approach ensures a fair and enjoyable evaluation of comedies based on their own merits.
